Something else to consider if you buy a "gaming" laptop is that they get hot. Very hot. When I bought my budget HP gaming laptop from Walmart a couple of years ago, the first thing I did was load up Shadow of the Tomb Raider. It ran for ten or fifteen minutes before it overheated and did an emergency shutdown. I had to undervolt it and used a high dollar cooling pad to get that game to run.
On the subject of power, the more you ask of your machine, the more power it will draw from your battery. This 2 year old HP gets about an hour and a half to two hours of battery life if I'm not doing anything more taxing than running a browser (light load), but less than an hour if I'm playing Sword of the Stars (med-light load). I haven't tried anything that would put a heavy load on the battery because there's no point. Whenever your machine has to kick in its dedicated graphic's card (as most gaming rigs are equipped with), it will suck power harder than a Hoover.
Performance uses power, and they can only make batteries so big. There's no way around it. Ye cannae change th' laws of physics.
